PLS Curriculum
Professional Language School (PLS), a division of Aviation Language Schools,
Inc. (ALS), provides complete classroom programs on several levels of
instruction: Business/Professional/ Technical English* Terminology. The
participant learns all the necessary verbal and written communication skills for
his/her chosen field.
Instruction is available at many levels, which include:
- Beginner: For students with little or no knowledge of English*.
This level provides the student with a working knowledge of the language that
will make him feel comfortable in an English* speaking environment.
Technical/professional terminology and phraseology are introduced.
- Intermediate: At this level, the student's increased proficiency in
English* allows for greater emphasis on technical phraseology and
role-playing. Field trips to places of career interest and importance are
arranged, thus preparing the student for independent communication.
- Advanced: This level is designed for the student whose fluency
allows for specific technical preparation. Individual attention is given, to
build confidence and professionalism in the career environment.
- Test Preparation Course: This course focuses on the specific skills
required to pass the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), MELAB
(Michigan English Language Assessment Battery), or CEFE (Comprehensive English
Fluency Exam), a TOEFL-comparable exam. A score of 550 on the TOEFL or CEFE
demonstrates English fluency and is an entrance requirement of most U.S.
universities and institutions of higher education. A score of 79 on the MELAB
exam is required by U.S. Immigration in order to be employed as a nurse.
- GED Preparation Course: This course is for students who do not
possess a High School diploma. It focuses on the specific skills required to
pass the GED (General Education Diploma - High School equivalency) exam.
* (PLS also offers the same diversity of courses and quality of
instruction for other languages. Instructors are native speakers of the
student's target language and are very familiar with the corresponding culture.)
